HHBA Hurricane Baseball Program Overview

Updated Wednesday December 28, 2016 by HHBA.

Hilton Head Baseball Association is very pleased to announce a few changes to our Hurricanes Travel Program for the 2017 Season and beyond.
Hilton Head Baseball Association has provided an opportunity for some of our players to play additional tournament baseball at a higher level of competition in the Hurricane Travel Program while playing recreational ball during the fall and spring seasons.  After a pilot of the program over the spring and summer of 2016, we have made some considerable improvements that will allow the players to develop at the AA, Minors and Majors levels.  This is designed to continue to enhance our Recreational League, and ensure that we retain the highest level of talent in the HHBA.  Further change to the 2017 program includes professional level coaching.
While we are actively discussing with candidates at this time and have had great interest.  We have 3 coaches committed to date Chris Wells and Ramon Vega Jr. and Collin Carter.
Mission Statement:
HHBA Hurricanes Baseball is founded on the principles of honesty, integrity, fun and consistency.  Our organization is dedicated to creating a unique and safe environment for young athletes so that they can learn the fundamentals of the game and improve their baseball and life skills for success, on and off the field.
HHBA Hurricanes Program Purpose:
The program will allow the more advanced HHBA players to accelerate their skill development and advancement by offering them the opportunity to learn, compete and play the game at the highest level of organized youth baseball.  At the same time, we will provide a focused development program geared at supporting the local Middle and High School programs with fundamentally sound and polished young players.
HHBA Hurricanes Structure Overview:
AA, Minors and Majors Leagues:
Beginning in January, HHBA will hold a designated tryout for the Hurricanes  program.  Following the tryouts, the assigned designees (i.e. coaches, select board members, etc…) will determine if the tryouts will be able to produce 1 or 2 teams (Gold and Silver or Age Specific) for each division (AA, Minors, Majors).  Once established, the team(s) will compete in local/regional/national tournaments based on the coach’s scheduling.  The Hurricanes will not compete on weekends in which the HHBA Spring League “recreational play” also competes.
The Spring Hurricanes Travel program will last from January through May.  If a player is chosen for the Recreational All Star team in their division at the end of the Spring Recreational Season, the player must accept or they will forfeit their eligibility to play Hurricanes Travel Baseball until August 1st of that year.  As part of the pre-requisite for participating in the Hurricanes Travel program, team members will also be required to participate in the HHBA Recreational Season to be eligible.   Additionally, all players MUST make a tryout date in order to be eligible to make the Hurricanes Travel Team.
Hurricanes Program Cost:
The set cost for each HHBA Hurricanes selected player is $525 per player (which includes the HHBA spring season early registration fee).  The player fee is due in full at the time of the first team practice – No exceptions unless alternative plans have been approved by the HHBA Hurricane Committee.  This money will go toward a uniform (which will include 2 game jerseys, field rental (if needed), structured coaching (practice twice per week) and partial tournament entry fees.  Each Hurricane team will be required to have a designated parent treasurer who will provide period financial reports to HHBA and the team families.  Players may be required to participate in fundraising efforts to help offset costs for the team.
