HILTON HEAD BASEBALL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES OPENING DAY CEREMONIES
March 4 event will mark the organization’s 44th season and include a memorial tribute to former umpire and program icon Ronnie Moore
Hilton Head Baseball Association (HHBA) announces plans to host its 44th opening day ceremonies at 6 PM on Friday, March 4 at The Crossings Park, 6 Haig Point Court, Hilton Head, SC 29928. This year’s event, and all future opening days, will be known as "Ronnie Moore Day" to honor longtime HHBA umpire and Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 Commissioner who passed away in September 2021.
“This year's opening day ceremonies will not only kick-off baseball season in the Lowcountry, but will commemorate the contributions of Ronnie Moore, whose years of dedication embodied the spirit of our town's program,” expressed HHBA President, Hiram Rodriguez. “Dedicating this, and all future opening day ceremonies to Ronnie, is important to the legacy of HHBA."
HHBA’s legacy began in 1978 with only 23 players and two coaches. The 2022 spring season boasts 235 young athletes ranging in age of 5-12 years, comprising of 21 teams within three age divisions. In addition to a tribute to Moore, agenda highlights include: first pitches by local officials, demonstration from the Hilton Head High School Color Guard, and recognition of the 2021 South Carolina Ozone Dixie Youth Baseball champions who competed at the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in August 2021.
